The clips that are on the sides of expansion slots (RAM-DIMM, PCI, PCI-E, Etc.) all aplly a certain level of pressure to the device to ensure it stays securely connected due to the minor shifts that occur due to expansion and compression from heat/cold. in a desktop, since there is little daily movement it should be ok, provided it fits securely, but your results may vary based on the fit. I would make sure you secure the card in the rear of the case as best you can.
