Does it matter which side goes into the disc and which to the motherboard?

The two cords that came with my mobo say k4 & k6 and k5 & kwa4 on the other.

When I googled k4 and k6 it was suggested they are a different cable grade or something but these have diff grades on each . Both cables say 6gb/s on both sides.

no the cables work both ways

if they say 6gbs then they all the same.
