My little cousin saved up enough to buy a computer, I told him I would build it for him when he got the parts etc.

He got the money about 2-3 weeks ago, but I told him to wait until this weekend to make any purchases

I made this mock pcpartpicker at the time, but haven’t had much time to look through any deals yet

Can anyone help me improve or look for better deals on this pick list? Thanks!!!

Note, he’s 16 and basically only cares about gaming on the pc

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rkhPYT

I’m wrapped up in family shit until Sunday, I just wanna game :(

idk how savvy your cousin is, but you may want to toss the ssd and just use a HDD. unless you believe he can closely watch where files are going.
that size SSD can get used up awfully quick.

also, i'd suggest a better power supply. i've only built a small number of PC's. maybe 15 total, and only 2 in this generation. i've had issues with more than 1 bronze rated power supply.

with rebates and special offer. this may end up cheaper and is gold rated. you could perhaps find a better deal or better product for the same price, but i'm not from canada so... good luck shopping.
however, i do recommend EVGA. there are other good reputable brands. but i'm pretty biased with this myself.

the modular bronze psu's are fine. EVGA, Corsair, and Seasonic are all good. I feel like I've read somewhere they even all use the same internals, but I could be wrong on that.

when it comes to modular, i've only had 1 bronze go out. that was about 2 months of use before it did.
i'd have to call and confirm what brand it was he purchased. i just slapped the shit together for him on that build.

either way though, it appears he can find a gold rated for the same price as the bronze. if you had 2 choices....

efficiency has nothing to do with quality of the psu, so purchasing bronze or gold makes no difference quality wise.
So if you had a choice of seasonic bronze vs HEC evga gold at same cost, u pick the seasonic 11/10 times.

i believed this to be true for the most part. which is why i didn't really state the gold is better quality. just stated i've had bad experiences with bronzes.
why would you opt for the bronze over gold though?

Seasonic is generally considered the best.

because quality matters much more than less than 5% difference in efficiency in a psu. For example, evga's superflower bronze psu's are well made and they actually perform like silver efficiency (overperforms) and if you compared it to a lower quality oem gold psu, the efficiency difference will be even less. You'd want quality power supply relying on your entire system, but as long as it's not junk tier u shd be alright. I didn't mean i would pick that bronze corsair budget psu over the EVGA's FSP model you picked, i meant if there was superflower or seasonic bronze for less i'd go with that over the gold.

ok, i follow. i was getting close to purchasing the EVGA T2 1600 for myself. (only because i didn't see a T2 1200 model)
perhaps i should do a bit more research about how these are built first.
