Hi guys,

My computer is unable to run any games these days it seems, and I think it is time to build a new new.

Budget: $1,000-$1,500. You guys maybe recommend a good price to performance threshold?
More specific use (what games, what programs): Destiny 2, D3, future proof for upcoming games
Planned time until purchase: before Christmas
Do you need an Operating System?: Have windows 7 on my old comp. Could I transfer it to the new one?
Do you have any specific preferred components?: Not particularly.
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: No
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Would consider overclocking for better performance
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: No
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): Canada

Any recommendations, builds etc is greatly appreciated.

Cases will all have similar performance and build quality, choose which one you like the look of the most.

Thanks man, I like the build!

What is your opinion on intel i5 8400 for CPU?
Is it less performance than the amd?

And what settings will 1070 push for 1440p?

The 8400 will do slightly better in lightly threaded workloads, or AVX 512, but beyond about 4 thread usage, the 2600 will pull ahead. Most newer games that run on DX12 have much better scaling over multiple cores. If you plan to do any type of video editing or streaming, the 2600 will blow the 8400 out of the water.

1070 can push 1440p at high setting 60 fps np, higher in some cases. The ti has 4 more cuda cores, and for reference I'm playing the new CoD at 1440p and steadily over 100 fps with max FoV, 90% render, and high on rest of the settings. Multiplayer, zombies, and blackout.

In gaming the 8400 is better. It dips far less and by far much more stable. Also there's no need for you to spend extra on higher timing ram or overclock. Ryzen would need to OC and have higher timed ram to barely beat the 8400, and with the extra costs you might as well just get the 8600k.

If you actually compared the two in gaming, you'd feel the difference. However if gaming isn't your main priority, 2600 will be the better choice for all around cpu. If you value saving few seconds rendering video, unzipping files etc. get the Ryzen, but expect to overclock it.

Pretty much these guys actually explain it pretty well, especially to those who have tough time reading color bench barz

CPU setup for both teams, rest of build is interchangeable.
AMD: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jkFLjy
Intel: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9H2k7W

A 4.0 GHZ OC (doable with stock cooler and within voltage spec) on the Ryzen CPU with the 3200 RAM XMP set would put these at about the same performance gaming. If you can deal with the extra 5 minutes of UEFI tuning, you get the advantage of significantly better productivity performance with the AMD.
