1155 Socket isn't dead.

You'll need to buy mobo/cpu/ram otherwise.

Youre better off posting entire specs. If you're wanting to upgrade to a new board and CPU you're going to need compatible ram.

1155 is ddr4 so hes got the right ram

really wondering how he managed to fry both his cpu/motherboard. In my experience those components just don't quit unless you mistreat them esp when so relatively new, unless they were faulty from the start but he made it this far with them so prob not the case.

i go thru power supplies pretty often thou

Socket 1155 is DDR3.

Intel, assuming you have a cooler that will work: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MhbT4C

AMD: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9h6p29

Intel is just a lil bit better for gaming

Other option is just find a z68 motherboard on ebay or similar.

If you do want to stay with the 2500K...Newegg has used motherboards that will accept it, and the DDR3 RAM...

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?N=100007627%20600093976%2050001312%2050001315%20600311010&Submit=ENE

IF the CPU is bad as well...

/e I'm not recommending that you stay with the 1155 socket, just posting where you CAN get replacement parts if you so desire.

I would still go with the ones I recommended in the above post though. But if your budget won't allow that... I wanted you to know there were other options.

oh whoops, got confused. I figured it was kaby lake socket or something because the numbers typically just get bigger and im on the last gen ddr3 platform from intel which is lga 1150

on that note you have 16gb of ddr3 just get like a haswell i7 that should be good for many years yet

You could Keep the DDR3. and get Get a i7 4790K and mobo. Would be a pretty big upgrade over a 2500K

4 core 4 thread to 4 core 8 thread and a node shrink.
