I've got an old pc my brother had laying around and decided I want to tinker. I haven't had a chance to overclock yet but I'm looking to upgrade and toy around with it a bit since I don't care if I mess this one up.

It's current info:

E5770 cpu
4gb ddr2 6xxmhz ram
Gtx 1050ti
450w psu
Win7 (can upgrade to 10 if needed)

I was considering purchasing an old q9650 since it seems that's my best bet for an upgrade on the lga 775 socket. Also not sure if its possible to get 4 or 8gb sticks of ddr2 but only have 2 slots!

Really just looking for upgrade ideas on this sucker + tips on overclocking the cpu. No set budget, just looking to make the best out of this old setup!

Isn't the Q9650 the bees knees for this socket?

Also, would this build actually work for games? Even if on lower settings? 60/1080 or close

It's so old tech wise not worth it imo. Q6600 we're beast when oc'd.
Really depend on price difference. Last I grabbed a Q6600 was. Like 30$ if that.
Lower end games itll do fine. Daughter still uses one.

it was one of the latest cpu's made for lga 775 but the q6600 will reign the master cpu for that socket forever
seriously though your gpu is the star of that case, everything else will bottle neck you no matter what you do to it, your mobo doesnt even fully support it.
