This is my first build so I was looking for recommendations on what to finish it off with. Took advantage of some good deals at a local microcenter and purchased the following:

CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 1700
GPU: ASUS gtx1060 3gb dual fan
Motherboard: Gigabyte ab350-gaming3

I already have a case in mind ( https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Carbide-Tempered-Mid-Tower-CC-9011133-WW/dp/B079JV8ZB9/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1526313576&sr=8-3&keywords=white+corsair+case ) so I need the following:

Power Supply:
Hard Drive: (Planning to purchase SSD and use external hd for storage)
Ram (Random Access memory):
Optical Drive: (How necessary is this in 2018?)
Cooling: (How much extra would I have to spend on this to overclock?)

I am a total noob when it comes to pc hardware, I am looking for the best value (cost vs performance) for each part in the low-mid range pricing tier.

I am a data science student and do a lot of work in excel/sql/R etc so i wanted to optimize for speed, but I also plan to use this pc for gaming newer titles and would like to run them at high/ultra settings if possible.

Most people don't use optical drives anymore. I still like them though. The case you picked doesn't have any 5.25 bays for an optical drive.

Here.
Cooler and psu will allow a moderate OC.
The ram is far better and cheaper.
The ssd's are negligible in difference in real world for about 1/3 less.
