I have put computers together but they were older, I wasn't worried about messing them up. I'm building my first so nervous and want to hit all the stops.

1st concern. I bought a hyper 212 evo , 1151 socket. The brackets that secure the heat sink seemed bent. One side would sit perfect, the other side would be hiked up high requiring a bit of pressure to push them down into the standoffs.

2nd concern. Due to that issue I attempted to troubleshoot the brackets thinking I was installing them incorrectly resulting in me lifting the heat sink off of its first sit on the CPU. does thermal paste need to be cleaned off and reapplied.

3rd. I have not gotten to bios, monitor, or any software portion. I did simply turn on the power though. CPU fan turned on, LEDS and case fan, but the GPU fans started and stopped after a few seconds. Now that is what is bothering me but idk if it's normal or not

I have tried to google solutions but nothing is a direct answer to my concerns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard. Msi b250 gaming pro
CPU fan. Hyper 212 evo 1151 compatible
Gpu. Gtx 1050 dual fan
Psu. Smart 500w

1. The Hyper 212 bracket is not damaged. The secret to attaching it properly is to start one of the screws (just 2-3 threads worth) then do the diagonally opposite screw next, (just 2-3 threads worth). Do the same for the two remaining screws. THEN proceed to tighten the screws down more, always following the diagonal screw pattern. Just keep giving each screw 2-3 turns, till they are all down tight.

2. Yes you will need to clean and apply new thermal compound.

3. That may be normal for the vid card. Some vid cards (to keep noise down) have the fan speed set so that without load on the vid card, the fans do not spin.

1. That's what I was doing different from tutorials , makes sense.

2. Okay that's exactly what I needed to know .will remove and reapply

3. Thank you, I was wondering about that especially since it gets power from the motherboard not an external power source

I sincerely appreciate it

The problem most folks have with the Hyper 212 bracket, is that they tighten down the first screw with too many thread turns. Then it's almost impossible to get the other screws to reach.
I use a Hyper 212 Evo, and the first time, I had the same problem.

I just hope I didn't mess up the brackets doing it

You're probably OK. That bracket is pretty tough.

I've had the same problem installing the 212 Evo. Always afraid I'm gonna fuck up the mobo/CPU pins lol. Gotta press down so hard. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Even when going diagonally it's the same problem.

as for 2. yes it's ideal to reapply the thermal paste but I was lazy and didn't and haven't had any temp problems
