Hey guys!

I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. Currently I have 2x4 GB Patriot 1600 CL9 Series.

I want to upgrade @ 16GB, but I don't know if I should buy another pack of 2x4GB Patriot or simply buy some new ones like 2x8 GB

Online reviews are balanced so I'm not sure.

My motherboard is a MSI 970 Gaming.

What would you guys suggest?

thanks!

buy a second kit, save the cash.
useless to just have 4gb laying around after when mobo has 4 slots.

i've had kits that aren't even the same brand sort of work together (as long as no single process was using more memory than one of the 2 kits had it was stable) and I've seen 2 of the 'exact same' kits just refuse to work together at all for some reason, so it's really a game of chance. Better to have sticks that are guaranteed by the manufacturer to work together imo, especially if he bought the RAM a particularly long time ago as a newer 2x kit could have some differences that make it even less likely to work with the older one despite being the same product by name and specification...

Most companies if theres a conflict will ship you a single set for your dbl set.

As long as you get the ones with the correct type and speed, using a different brand won't cause a problem.
