Alright so looked back at my newegg history and I picked out this custom computer in April 2013.

Problem is for the last couple weeks it has been shutting off randomly while playing runescape, watching streams or even just YouTube.

Think it's my psu? I took my side panel off and cleaned out the computer + I did a fresh reformat so it literally just has runescape and the internet on it and it still shut down randomly last night while playing. It doesn't turn back on, just shuts off.

Anyways here is the specs and is it better to just rebuild a new computer rather than replace the PSU if that's the problem since 5 years is quite outdated?

AMD FX-8320 8 core cpu

Patriot Viper 3 8GB ( 2x sticks at 4GB ea) DDR3 SDRAM 1866

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB SATA Internal Hard Drive

ASUS M5A97 AM3+AMD 970+SB 950 MoBo

SeaSonic 650AM 650W PSU

SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 7870 GPU

Just looking for some input on what to do, getting annoying with these shutdowns.

Thank you!!

could be ur CPU overheating
Take off the cpu cooler, and remove thermal paste & apply new

Ok was wondering, cuz 650W is plenty for this build.

I can try that and see

When idel CPU was 57-65 degrees max C.
When I loaded up runescape and a twitch stream I saw it RISE to 90 degrees C.

CPU Overheating must be the prob. Maybe time to take it apart and just clean the hell out of it. And maybe new thermal paste has been about 5 years.

ya there's ur problem, comp shuts off to protect ur CPU.
those amd stock coolers also suck, so u might wanna spend $30 on these if u wanna keep the temps much lower

Make sure you pick up some new thermal paste too.
