I am running an older rig and Id prefer not to start over for a couple more years. currently running:

GTX 550ti
AMD FX-8120

seems to be a decent enough combo. i haven't noticed any significant bottle necking but I understand that can happen and why. Wondering what gen I can upgrade to and get the best return for my investment.

considering 1050ti. does this sound right? I am not trying to spend 500+ on a gpu when I will need to replace everything in 1.5 years

do it in this order, gpu > cpu. pretty sure i've seen people with worse cpu's (fx 6350, which is a tier lower) that have gotten a good gpu and held off while still reeping a lot of benefits from a new gpu.

I second the 1050 ti.
due to the mining/gpu price inflation, the 1050 ti is the best gpu for the money.
youll have to spend almost double just to move up to a 1060 or a 480.

You should be fine on your CPU for awhile with the 1050 ti, but i'd buy an evo or another good 30 dollar cooler if you don't have one so you can OC it a little bit.
