Wondering if I need to upgrade a few components holding me back or if I need to just start fresh (assuming that this is the correct choice, but looking for feedback.

I built my PC about six years ago and think I had pretty standard, middle range items at the time. My current build is:

MSI Z68A-GD65, i think this is the item
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130611

Intel core i5 2500k
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

AMD Radeon HD 6870
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948

Roswill 650W Power supply
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182071

I've got a 500gb that I bought at the time of build and a 250 (i think, may be 128) SSD that I bought a few years ago, Samsung 840 pro series

So what does everyone think? Can I get away with upgrading one or two things or would everything here really limit whatever I upgraded?

Tbh I would start fresh. I'm assuming that the 500 gb drive is a HDD and the 128/256 is the SSD. You should keep the SSD for new build and sell everything else for 300-400ish if you can via let go/OfferUp/Craigslist.

What kind of budget are you looking at since building new is probably your best choice?

What kinds of games do you play? Anything modern/recent might bottlenneck the cpu. Do you do anything else on your PC?

Holy hell man, if you'd give me (or know a buyer) 300 for this computer minus the SSD i'd ship it out tonight lol. I think finding a buyer would be the hardest part for me, no matter what I charge for it who is gonna want a 6 year old computer?

as far as a budget, I'd have to give that some thought. To start out I'd probably keep the two monitors I have and the keyboard and mouse, so I'd just need the tower components (minus the SSD and windows if I keep mine). I think I could probably swing 5-600? Something like that.

Literally right now all I play is RS but I'm gonna pick up POE soon and, tbh, my computer struggles sometimes with source Twitch streams. FeelsBadMan

I sold a 3570k/16gb ram/gtc 760 for 450 6 months ago.
Just list it as Minecraft/csgo 300 fps (just kidding, kinda)
Really tho, get at least 225 for it. Anything lower I would wait on personally.

If u can squeeze out another $100, you should get a 1060 6gb instead. So much better than a 1050ti. Both should run those games without breaking a sweat.

are you upgrading monitor too?

if 1080o/60hz just get new vid card to 580/480 or 1060

if streaming is very important start new

Thanks for this info, I'll take a look. I might be able to make the bump if you consider it to be really significant. Keeping the SSD so I can save on the SSD and on windows is a good idea. You don't think there will be any drawbacks of that? It's only a few yrs old, I dont know what the typical lifetime of an SSD is.

If I wanted to add a HDD, to that build, what would you recommend?

definitely keep the SSD - kept mine from my 1st build 4 years ago. No issues there. They should last awhile, either they work or they don't :)
SSD's were cheaper to buy awhile back, prices have gone up lately so it's not worth it to sell that for basically $40 in your system and rebuy one for $110 or something.

link below updated with hdd choice

Ok cool, thanks for the info. SSDs aren't something I know all that well.

One more question about the build, I noticed there's no cooler for the cpu, is it just not something that's necessary unless you're doing crazy things with it? I have a pretty big one on my current build so I was curious about that
