I think it's going to be GTX 1060. Before I would have said the RX 580 myself bc I'm close enough to an AMD fan boy myself. But benchmarks that I show have been more favorable with the GTX 1060. If you have an idea of a better graphics card in the same price range please let me know! I may be doing this same upgrade myself as I own an HD7870 too and my proc is an FX8350.

Thanks for any feedback you are able to provide!

The proc I am concerned with at moment is i7-3820, another question being, would it bottleneck at the proc? Both procs are ABOUT the same essentially.

gpu is still the most important part for gaming, and on cpu performance wise I think a i7-3820 should definitely be fine. Its actually better than a fx 8350 or even a fx 9590 and is in line with most good i5's/i7's

anything faster than a gtx 460 is gonna bottleneck pretty badly on a cpu like the i7-3820. Recommend upgrading to at least a xeon e7-8894 v4 if you're considering the gtx 1060 6gb.

Thanks for the feedback!
These were my thoughts as well. We ordered asus strix 1060, 750 evga psu fully modular (over kill I know, but it will help with upgrades he was concerned with in future), 500 gb Samsung 850 Evo, and 2TB Seagate Barracuda.
-I'm actually pretty anxious to order same graphics card and drives for myself. Just not ready to do it now because I have a lot of home improvements that I want to finish and if I get those I will want to play instead. HAHA

Not sure if you are trolling about buying xeon server proc (which I have seen people use and I have drooled for a few seconds over), or if you are just simply saying not to worry about bottleneck on graphics bc gtx 1060 6gb is BOSS.
Thanks for stopping by and posting regardless. :)

He's trying to say that the i7 will limit the 1060. I disagree, though.

I was joking, sandy bridge-e i7 is plenty for a 1060, barring the odd memory bandwidth hungry title like FO4
