Hi friends

Looking at upgrading my r9 200. It seems to crash often and get a warning "graphics card has failed and has recovered"

Current motherboard is msi g45

Seeing as I am a single dad, cant drop a ton on it. Looking for suggestions in the 120-150 range. 200 tops total. I am fine keeping the motherboard and just upgrading the graphics card

Could just download speccy & post a pic.

Are your graphic card drivers up to date?

Not experiencing any artefacting or other anomalies? Is it possible something not being monitored is overheating such as the VRM's or vram bus? I'm not willing to count the card out just based on what I've heard. What are the errors?

Upping your ram to 16 gigs would help also.

If cash is a problem you may try downloading overclocking software such as MSI afterburner.
Instead of overclocking, try underclocking and see if you have the same issue. If you need further details or help on that, let us know. But ultimately i would google a quick guide on how to overclock and simply do the opposite.
lower by about 50 mhz on each core and ram to see if problem resolves. if not, try 100 each.
if issues persist, then you could look at grabbing a 1050 ti for around your price range. (or try even more extreme underclocking, but i am dubious if it would help at that point).

Additionally, ensure your card is not too dusty. (it takes a lot of dust, so if you can't visibly see quite a bit, probably not the issue).
