Whats a good upgrade in the 150W range?

for that wattage range it really comes down to the 1060 or 480
and then i would narrow it down from there based on what cpu you have as nvidia has more cpu headroom due to having multi threaded drivers, basically if your cpu is weak go 1060 if it's stronk go 480, Nvidia always gets more fps in cpu bound scenarios for a reason.

It's also the main reason amd gpu's seem to 'get better with age' but that's another topic for another thread

also don't base your decision off shaders, dx12 is DOA, any games that uses it are (as they already do) also going to utilize other API's that aren't part of a shitty monopoly attempt. Vulkan is the future and the 480 will probably last longer but by the time the 1060 lacks features you'll probably want to upgrade anyway. It's not going to be like the omg Tesla cant even dx10/dx11 nvidiots on suicide watch days. Although I do think Maxwell had a weak scheduler even compared to Fermi which was like 2010 lol.. couldn't even handle async well.. a flaw Pascal shares.

Found an RX 480 that fit the bill.
Most of them were 8GB - 8pin so the power consumption was a little high

That's part of it sure but look at the 7970 for example, Over 5 yrs later it was still seeing gains because it was being paired with stronger and stronger cpu's

amd is getting their drivers together and getting rid of the cpu overhead
