Hi, I'm using pcpartpicker and I'm looking to purchase msi970 gaming atx mobo. My CPU is amd fx-8320 3.5gHz 8-core and pcpartpicker gave me a warning that these parts may be incompatible. The warning states that "Some AMD 970 chipset mobos may need a BIOs update prior to using Vishera CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS versions". I did some reading online but I'm honestly not sure what I'm looking for.

Will I have to tinker with the settings or will it be fine?

It means your cpu will not work till you update the bios. updating the bios will require a compatible cpu.

So it's 100% sure that it will not work unless I update it? There's a few questions similar to this nature on google and some did have to update while others did not

It all depends on what BIOS the motherboard ships with. Moards manufactured later, have later BIOS versions.
IF you want to stick with the 8320, then at least get a 990 chipset motherboard. If possible, get an ASUS baord. They are able to flash the BIOS w/o a CPU being installed.

Thank you! What do you mean by flash the BIOS without a CPU?

On ASUS motherboards, there is a special USB connector on the back of the motherboard. You can download the latest BIOS from ASUS and save it on a USB stick. Then just put that in the USB poirt on the back of motherboard, and flash the BIOS.

The complete instructions are in the motherboard manual.

/e You can just call ASUS tech support as well...and they can walk you through it. You probably won't even need to flash the BIOS with the motherboard I linked.
