Description: Gaming, Interactive Media Design, Graphic Design, Video Game Design (some Unreal Engine prefer 32+gb Ram)

Budget: Under 2000 but prefer closer to 1500 USD if possible
More specific use (what games, what programs): Overwatch, Diablo, WoW, PoE, Grim Dawn, ESO, and getting into newer stuff like Witcher 3, etc.
Programs include but not limited to Unreal Engine, Photoshop, Blender, CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Most of the Adobe CC, Some Web Design programs, Atom, Dreamweaver, etc
Planned time until purchase: 1-3 weeks
Do you need an Operating System?: Will be getting Windows 10 from Twed or King
Do you have any specific preferred components?: Prefer wireless on Mobo because lazy but depends on price and want gfx 1070 + 32gb ram because of unreal engine
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Yes but prefer wireless on Mobo because lazy but depends on price
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Plan to overclock some but not sure what extent
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: Need at least one monitor included in budget, I have a mouse and keyboard
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 43725 OH
What are your preferences in case style? (lights, flashy, dull, etc) Leaning toward something like the P400S Tempered Glass but open to others
Are you planning to use multiple monitors? Long run yes but under current budget, one will work until I can get a 2nd
Are you looking for upgradeability? Yes as extra funds come in future upgrades will happen
Do you have any preferred brands? Like the green team but always open to proven benchmarks
Can you reuse any components from an older build? No original system is outdated
Is there anything else you think we should know? In school for Interactive Media Design and mess around with programming on the side.

This is the build I figured up but want to see what others think and ways I could go.

I know the monitor isnt the best choice or even close but it was something cost efficient for the moment.

More cores more better for u.
Ryzen 1700 IMO

Ofc, wait for benches. Larger SSD as well. Can skip on other things but would def get a better monitor.
I'll see what I can come up shortly.

/E I actually won't. Need more information on compatibility. Not enough time at work lol

I thought about the 1700 or the x but never been a big AMD fan. However, I am interested to see what real benchmarks are after its released. Plans for a larger SSD was an "early" future upgrade as right now its just something to get by with to get the build going. Montior Im still in the air about thats why I wanted to see what others thought since Im kinda at a cross with things

Well assuming that this will feed into your future career, you'll benefit as monitor resolution increases from the additional cores. The am4 platform will last 4 years according to AMD. It's definitely worth considering if you don't want to start from scratch later on. Above statement assumes that intel won't act by dropping price to compete with AMD pricing, and that Intel's history of 5-10 IPC gains with each gen remains true.

So let's say you graduate in 2 years and you're starting your career. You'll want to upgrade system when you land that job. You'll either throw out Mobo/CPU in favor of AMD OR if u go AMD now, you'll just upgrade the processor. This is assuming you change monitors into 4k monitors.

Just my 2c tho ;)

As I said, never been a fan on AMD, however, if the current benchmarks hold true will definitely be worth looking at in comparison especially since the rig wont be JUST for gaming. 4k monitors will happen in the future but right now I have no need for them. Part of why I put my timeline 1-3 weeks instead of a few days is I want to see what true test come out of the new AMD first.

So whats everyones thoughts since we have a little better idea on facts and numbers between keeping the 7700k or doing the 1700x? I know realistically I should go for the higher core since Ill be stuff that could use it but is the little lower time from the 7700k on certain things worth it in compared to everything else Im looking at? Since its gaming/workstation Im still stuck on trying to choose

It's like 490 dollars after rebate and instant savings. If you have a microcenter near you.

That's not terrible.

But the 1070 is also 390 if deals. Up to you, if you want the 100 dollar difference or not.

Anywho, I'd buy it right now but I am signing papers to buy a house and I need my monies for new furniture / little things around the house. ;(
