Sound card isn't needed, Mobo has a built in one. Unless he's got some $500 headphones there isn't a point in getting a sound card to use with his $4 earbuds.

If you have $500+ headphones & are using a sound card I Will bitch slap someone.


Pretty much as it is now, The upgrade order is Onboard Sound -> External Amp-dac. You can get an external setup for cheap now that will blow any soundcard out of the water. Not to mention reducing the electronic noise from moving the amp/dac outside of the pc case.


Unless you need some specific option of the soundcard, Like 5.1 speaker support/etc.
