So I recently went out and bought a new CPU.
Current MOBO - M5A78L-M LX Plus
Current cpu is an FX-6100.
New is an FX-8320 Black Edition.
Im reading what seems like a bunch of misinformation on compatibility.
Is it correct that my mobo is rated @ 95W and the new CPU is rated 125W?
And trying to use these two together is not a good idea?
I have a watercooler as well, idk what model but its corsair.
When replacing/upgrading the cpu, do I need to apply thermal paste?
Thanks in advance!

Your motherboard supports CPUs up to 125W.

Ok so the 8320 wont get too hot and damage the mobo then correct?
Also with a watercooler, do I need to apply thermal paste after installing the new cpu?

The watercooler will need new thermal paste.
This is the stuff I use and recommend.

Keep in mind, you do have a bottom of the line motherboard. I wouldn't count on it being able to overclock very far.
/e This would be a much better motherboard:

<----- This is an ATX motherboard. The board you havew is a microATX motherboard. So this one is bigger.

I probably wont overclock until, as you said, I upgrade the mobo.
I know its pretty sorely outdated.
I may just hold off installing the new cpu until I get a new mobo.
Seems like the best course of action.

The CPU will be fine on the motherboard you have. The motherboard itself doesn't have any heatsink on the VRMs so overclocking will be minimal.
/e VRMs are voltage regulators.
/ee Also...even though you can see it in these pics...your mobo has a 4 pin CPU power connector, and the one I recommended has an 8 pin CPU power connector. This is also better, for overclocking.
BUT, if you decide to oder the ASUS M5A99FX Pro R 2.0 motherboard...you need to make sure your case will hold an ATX sized motherboard.

Yeah, that case will take either an ATX or a microATX motherboard. So you would be good to go.
