Right now i can buy a few things

Def need to buy more ram

thinking also a gpu (1070), then next year once i get tax return i will do the rest

thoughts? (can you mix and match ram? meaning current with a 2x 8bg ddr4)

Unless he can find the exact same stick...it ain't worth the hassle tryin' to mix n match.

Well then you have it in the wrong slots. It should read "dual channel" in Speccy.
