Okay so i got a second dekstop laying there
Which i would like to upgrade so it can be used again for simple use
I'm thinking of buying a Q6600 cause i think that everything else would be an overkill.

Specs Are

Motherboard :ASUS P5K
CPU : C2duo e6750
GPU : Gts 250 1Gb Green Edition
PSU : Noname 550watt
Ram : Currently 2x 1gb Kingston DDR2 633Mhz
WIll be replaced with 2x 1Gb ddr2 800Mhz + 2 x 2Gb Hyper x ddr2 800mhz which i find laying without use :D

Any opinions are nice to hear :)

yep.
base is 2.4 should get 3.4 ez after you may have to tweak a bit to go higher
4gb is enough don't mis match kits/fill all dimms on that bard if oc'ing the cpu.

Make sure you get the q6600 with SLACR so it has go stepping.
those are the ones that oc well not the first models.

Xeon e5450 (q9650) with sticker from eBay, cut the notched bit of plastic off on the mobo so it will fit into place.

Cheaper than a Q6600, better performance as well. Ability to overclock over 4ghz.

E: Research LGA 771 to LGA 775 mod.

Not really interested in overclocking
Didn't did it when i was using that c2d before 2 years
I ain't think i got to overclock since i'll not use it for much things :)

Well i considered xeons as well, but i think that are too complex for what i need.
Btw i can't find any cheaper e5450 than q6600(i would consider it if i find one :P )
I've found a q6600 from a local ebay seller(Greece) which has the cheapest in europe price(18.5 euros)
And my second solution is buy from chine and wait long time to arrive for 15euros.
So i really think that a q6600 is the most cheapish option

the G0 stepping models also run at lower temps and use less power.
and has many fixes that were applied over the B3 series.
