$500 isn't enough for there to be a huge difference from laptop to laptop. Just pick a brand you like and you will be okay especially since she only needs office.

I got an Acer Aspire for school/work. Nothing special but it's cheap and get the job done. Bought it 3-4 years ago, still works perfectly fine. Never had any issues with it.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-elitebook-14-refurbished-laptop-intel-core-i5-4gb-memory-128gb-solid-state-drive-silver/5513907.p?skuId=5513907

Go for something refurbished like this... SSD alone will make her feel like she got something special & futuristic... + you could spend parts of the remaining 270$ on a Win 10 license.

No need to go for a plastic consumer laptop that will run office tasks etc. at the exact same speeds (or even slower, considering SSDs aren't what you usually get), while leaving you with a CPU power overhead you'll never need, but that'll cost you those 270$ more.

The link is just a basic example... might find newer (generation) CPUs with even more RAM for about the same price with a little research.

I would spend A Good Minimum 1500$ preferrably 2000$ Or more Depending on what you Buy the Quality And Like How much GBs Worth Of RAM. Custom Building Your Own laptop Just Like your Building your Own Desktop PC it will be WAY Cheaper it is just Different when knowing what to do And How to put it together at Least when Compared to Knowing what to do And How to put together A Desktop PC.

Bad troll attempt or retarded... most likely the latter.
