Looking to upgrade my friends computer. Last night his power supply got fried and now computer won't turn on. Budget is approximately 700$. Hes hoping to keep most of the parts, but is looking to upgrade power supply and maybe motherboard. He plays wow:legion and wants it to be able to run on ultimate settings without fps issues and no overclocking.

He currently has this card: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/7RKhP6/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1060-6gb-windforce-oc-6g-video-card-gv-n1060wf2oc-6gd

Well its possible that the psu did damage to his mobo as well, but i wouldn't replace it until you confirm.
what's his budget and does he have any preferences?

Will he do rebates ?

30 dollars here for a cheap option after rebate

Middle option here, kind of average power supply but modular

and this is sort of the cream of the crop option

these are all reliant on rebates. if you wont do rebates let me know and more details on what youre looking for. ^_^

Well in total including S&H he has around 900$ USD. I was looking at some builds on here and I selected this one for him since he bought the GPU already.

This would come out to around 910$ not including S&H, but I am sure he can go a little over. Just want to make sure this build can run WoW Legion on ultra settings.

My mistake, I thought you were just repairing that computer not building a new one.

Are you aware that his current CPU is perfectly fine and you could just throw a GPU and PSU in that prebuilt and be good to go? (so long as the mobo did not sustain damage).
There isn't really a big difference between the 6600k and the 3570k, so you won't really be gaining much by upgrading all of that, unless of course he just wants to :)

In any event, I changed some stuff around. All of which are just improvements for the money. 500 Gig ssd saves you money over 240 gig ssd + 1tb. Unless he needs the 1tb specifically, this is the better option.

The only thing you "may" not like is i took out the water cooler for a really good air cooler. it's white, so it matches the rest of the whiteness of the mobo/ram.
Though you can easily just get the water cooler, do so only for looks, because it's not really better for cooling, just looks sexy ^_^

Yea it was just upgrading, but he's unsure if anything took any damage. He just heard something that sounded like fire crackers going off in the computer and then the circuit breaker shut off. So he said he's just getting all new stuff. Unless he should keep some of the items.

Get all new stuff.

Then you can test the parts of the old computer, in the new one, and keep any that work.

Oh, Well naturally he should keep anything that works :P
Id try getting just a new PSU and move from there, if i were you.
