More specific use (what games, what programs): FL STUDIO 12
Planned time until purchase: 1-2 WEEKS
Do you need an Operating System?: YES
Do you have any specific preferred components?: NO
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: I WILL BE USING A USB AUDIO INTERFACE MOSTLY BUT I WILL ALSO NEED A STOCK MOTHERBOARD SOUNDCARD
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: STOCK COOLING, NO OVERCLOCKING
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: NO
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): CANADA

My budget is $1100 CDN, it needs a good chunk of RAM to support many FL STUDIO instruments playing at the same time and it needs to be quiet

appreciate any leads! I do have some old hard drives with windows xp and windows 7 on them, and though I think they're slow and outdated im totally fine with using them if that means more money towards better components elsewhere in the tower

while you can use those old drives you can't use the windows install from them.
so it would be solely for extra media storage., question is how large are those drives.

If you have the discs for those installs however we can extract the license key for reinstalling on the new drives.

I have the licence keys for both windows 7 and XP but only the install cd for XP, the size of the drives are 250gb each, different models if that makes a difference

This actually seems like a very decent PC for the pricetag.
Otherwise: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/FRqcxY
And 25-30$ windows on pinguin

If noise level is an concern, consider spending like 35$ on an aftermarket cooler.

Something like this would be more "future proof"
Considering you get the ability to clock it higher when needed, more expansion slots, more ram slots, and supports higher frequency RAM.
Even not clocked, you will have an higher clock rate on your CPU and RAM with that setup

thank you so much man

i will give both options a good bit of thought and make my purchase this weekend

the acers hard drive speed is 5400rpm, the one you listed is 7200rpm, will that difference be noticeable for my needs? going through songs, samples, virtual instruments, plugins etc

also, are refurbished computers a bad idea? acer seems to be a large brand and canadacomputers is a very reputable store around these parts, but i have no experience ever buying refurbished PCs

It really could. Depending on what brand/model the 5400rpm. But the loading time can be considerable.

Depends on their warranty. But without doubt the one i linked is quite better. Considering the SSD and the 750ti is quite a lot more power. And its a lowend 300W power supply in the Acer.

But if you consider putting the PC together yourself annoying and a time waste, the acer aren't bad choice.
