I need a 13-14" screen / thin laptop to take on the go for development.
Prefer windows OS
intel i5
8 GB RAM
256 GB+ SSD
Looking to spend $500 or less.

Not gunna happen. Best case, buy one without ssd, buy ur own ssd and drop it in. Should run $600-650 Max

I've never used a zenbook. I've eard mixed things - probably will previous models. Watch a review video on YouTube. I believe the track pad is what was "meh" about them.
Good price for the hardware in it but you might be better off going with a last gen cpu + dedicated graphics instead.

I want to buy something this weekend, I can't decide.
I just like the look of the asus zenbook and how slim it is, plus it has all the specs I want with the i7, 512 gb ssd, 8 gb ram, windows 10.
is $1k too much for this?

I ended up buying this and upgrading the RAM to 16 GB
