Planned time until purchase: End of Day (Ideally)
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 53956

Main: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fdgK3C
- All parts displayed are the current parts.
- I view this computer as one I will upgrade as "needed"

Media: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/zKKKpb
- Only the case and ram are finalized for this build.
- No Peripherals
- No Monitor
- No Need for OS. Will either try linux or find other means.

1) [main] I would like to upgrade the ram on the computer. I either want 16gb total or 32gb total. I'm not sure if 32 is just nice to have or is literal overkill. Suggestions?

2) [main] Any weak links or WTF's in this build? I am a casual gamer and find myself on my computer all the time for work and entertainment also enjoying low graphics in competitive games, but ultra in games like skyrim. What should I upgrade/look into upgrading next/down the road?

3) [media] Does what I currently pick out look alright? I know near to nothing when it comes to hardware, but these are the choices that made sense to me.

4) [media] No idea on powersupplys, why do I want the one you pick out?

Thank you!

Any input on 3/4?

The reason the case / ram is 'finalized' is I got that case for free and the ram would be from whats currently in the main.

Well, I'm not really up on Media center PCs, but doesn't it need a vid card? The AMD Athlon X4 860K, has no internal grfx.

My intention with this computer is to just hook it up to a tv in the living room via an hdmi cable. Wouldn't I be able to get away with just having a motherboard with HDMI slots, I thought that meant it has an 'on-board' graphics or something? By Media computer I guess I don't mean like video editing etc. I mean more like i'm going to use it just for entertainment - not to do anything crazy.

Idk - sorry really unknowing when it comes to hardware.

You need an APU to get a video signal. The motherboard has no onboard GPU...it's like Intel boards...it gets the video signal from internal grfx part of the Processor.

Like this, the A10-7890K DOES have an internal grfx part...

/e Or, you can stick with the 860K, but you will then need a vid card.

/ee There are VERY few motherboards, that have Onboard video these days.

/eee This is the only FM2+ socket motherboard, with onboard video, that I could find...

Good to know.

I probably would then want to switch out the processor as to avoid a graphics card.

with probably what you suggested: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/PqYmr7

Just open your media PC parts list, choose Edit this list, remove the 860K and then search for a new processor. The ones that start with A# (like A10, A8...etc.) ...are the ones with an Internal grfx part.

/e The one I picked, the A10-7890K, comes with the new: AMD Wraith cooler and an AMD R7 Internal grfx part.

Update:

Main Computer:
- Ordered ram suggested.
- Noted for future reference graphics card upgrade.

Media Computer:
e*e* New link that includes a power supply and a cpu that has integrated graphics: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xfdv3F
I think this is now ready to order? Looking for 1-2 people to validate/comment on the build.

You don't need the CPU cooler. The A10-7890K comes with a good one.

/e It comes with the new AMD Wraith Cooler.
