so im looking at upgrading from a sabertooth 990fx + FX 8350, to one of the z170 boards and an i7 6700k
im curious, why did asus put the waterblock on the lower performing maximus board?
but anywho on to the real question, whats the difference?
maximus viii hero alpha
maximus viii hero
maximus viii formula

of what i see, the major difference is about 200 mhz between the formula and the extreme and the "hyper kit" (and i have no clue what a hyper kit is so if some one can explain that would be cool)
but anyways is the waterblock a solid piece of equipment?
why dont the other two have it ?
do i REALLY need that extra 75-200 mhz vs the $200
and with the hero and alpha so close in price would which is better value? you always have to perform, but high performance comes with a lot of cooling, and each is lacking in the opposing fields

The water block on the Formula model is just a hybrid option, it will work as a decent heatsink with or without a water loop.

Otherwise they are all pretty much the same board. W/e one fits your budget is the one to order.

/e The diff tween the Hero and the Hero Alpha just seems to be the highest RAM speed you can run.

/e Here's a build...just add w/e vid card you desire...
