Looking to upgrade my gpu.
Currently I've got a 7850 2gb card.
I'm looking to move up to a 3gb minimum 4gb preferably.
And I'd like a noticeable difference in performance but nothing insane.

I'd like to spend ~300$ if not less.

I'm in Canada, Ontario more specifically for pricing.

I noticed AMD recently released these 470 rx cards?

I don't follow pc hardware anywhere close to what I use to, and far less then most of you here I'd imagine so that said.

What would you do? Is there newer GPU's from and on the way soon that will fit that budget and out perform my 7850?

Only catch here is I'm only interested in AMD products.

Thanks in advance.

RX 470 will do almost as good, but they haven't bench marked it yet...at least on Anandtech.

So it's just a card with newer components that does what older cards can do at a slightly better price?

Wondering cause I see them at the 200$ mark which is 50 cheaper then what I paid for my 7850 in ~2012.
Yet there very similar in power.

Edit:

I've spotted some r9 290 GPU's available around the 300$ mark and I'm tempted, but at the same time worried there may be better cards for the price with better performance?

I'd opt for the RX 480. You can crossfire it later down the road. Can't SLI with the 1060.

The RX 480 is three of four times faster than the 7850. The RX 470 is probably twice as fast as the 7850.

The RX 480 is comparable to the R9 290, using less power and running cooler.

Personally, I hate AMD vid cards. BUT, With your budget it's either the RX 480 or the GTX 1060, which can't be SLI'd in the future (if you wanted to). The RX 40 can be crossfired.

Yeh I'd just be sticking with a single card.

I'll take a look at the 480 then.
I didn't think it was that much better tbh.

So if I plan on 1080p maybe 1440 but nothing higher would the 4gb rx480 suffice for most modern games?

The 8gb model is 360 +tax and shipping in canada putting me over budget quite a bit while the 4gb one is closer to the 250 mark.

As of right now my 7850 is capable of stable frames in almost every game I own except a modded skyrim, nba 2k16 and Metro.

Would the 4gb rx 480 give me a substantial graphical based frame boost while gaming at those resolutions over the 7850?
