I'm hearing a whining feedback-like noise coming out of my speakers when they're plugged in at the back of my case. The case is a corsair carbide air 540, and I think it's because the vibrations of my PSU (which is situated right next to the rear I/O shield) are transmitting through to the jack. Is there any way I can prevent this? If not, I may end up getting a dedicated sound card, nothing expensive, but hopefully it won't pick up the vibrations - any recommendations?

e/ don't need anything above 2.0 support

Also looking for a good wifi card for gaming, any suggestions? Budget for sound + wifi card would be about £50

Can't imagine a power supply ...vibrating. What speakers are you using, that have this feed back noise?

ASUS Xonar sound cards are pretty cheap. They have a wide range to offer.

/e A feedback whine coming from speakers could be caused by a few things...

bad shielding on speakers or speaker cables.
coil whine in some component, that just sounds like it's coming from the speakers.
bad shielding on something else in the computer.

It would help to know all the components in your new PC.

IF it IS coil whine, you can use a dowel rod or similar about two feet long. Touch one end to your ear and the other to ...let's say the power supply or the vid card. The long piece of wood will act like a stethoscope.
Just be careful and don't stick the other end into any moving fans. :)

I can't actually remember what particular speakers they are, I just know that they're Xenta's and they were pretty expensive. Also I've tried plugging them into another computer and there's no problems so it must be my PC.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll try that out in the morning!

The whining noise gets louder or quieter when I jiggle the jack around while it's plugged in, or nudge the wire even slightly. Bad connection, maybe?

If you mean the speaker wire...then yeah, could very well be a bad jack. If you find a spot where it makes NO noise...tape it there, so it doesn't move. Duct tape works good for that.

Also, it's best to keep speaker wires, away from power wires.
