i need a monitor and would like some suggestions, preferably $250 or under. I'm looking to game on it, but colors are important to me. I see a lot of discussion about the Asus VG248QE (http://pcpartpicker.com/product/rkphP6/asus-monitor-vg248qe). Is this solid? I do graphic design and would also like decent colors, but as far as I can tell I would have to spend $400+ for a 120hz+ IPS monitor. That being said, should I go with the Asus VG248QE? I've never used an IPS monitor before. How desaturated are the colors? I've read that there are ways to tweak the monitor so that you can get better colors out of it. Anyone have experience?

I dont think you need above 60hz for graphic design

1440p
27" or higher
IPS

you dont need 144hz

I don't only do graphic design. I game just as much if not more than I freelance. I have a day job where I do graphic design away from home.

I play shitloads of Overwatch and want to get into more PC gaming. Probably selling my Xbox One soon since I don't need it for smooth gaming anymore.

You don't need a 144hz monitor for overwatch

At 1440p ultra settings you will be getting 100fps at most and it wont be smooth due to fluctuation if you dont lock it at 70fps

Well I definitely don't want to be locked at 60fps? If I wanted that I'd just play Xbox. lol

xbox is locked at 30fps on 1080p and 60fps on 900p or less(even then it's certain games)

And no
You dont get Ultra settings or 1440p on XBox

Look it's your money and if 144hz is what you want then go for it

But dude
We are all moving on to 1440p or 4k now
It's time to move forward not backwards
Your gfx card is capable of 1440p ULTRA settings on overwatch
which is why the previous guy linked you a 1440p monitor

If you want to settle for 1080p then yea i guess the monitor you linked is probably the only one in your budget

What happens if you decide to upgrade your gfx card later?
You're stuck with a 1080p monitor

Fair enough. I'm having trouble finding more 1440p options for my budget. Do 1440p sit closer to ~$350 average?
