Thinking about buying a gtx 970 to upgrade my graphics cards, I know new ones are coming out but really would like one now.

Currently have a 750ti and its starting to hold me back in games, can still play most with above 30 fps but more clutter and it really bogs down.

cpu is a amd fx-6300 and the mobo is a ga-78lmt-usb3 micro atx and have a 550w power supply currently

Was curious if the 970 would be compatible with my setup or if i need to upgrade more parts.

Also have 8gb of ram currently, and I play ARK so it consumes quite a bit at times so was wondering if maybe upgrading to 16gb would help and if so, what should i buy ram wise?

Also if there is a better gfx card around same price as the 970, lmk and I will check it out!

Thanks

they will recommend you either
gtx 970
or
r9 390

what is your budget

8gb is good enough for ark
you might want a better cpu

400 or less. I have no problem going with the 390 as long as it's compatible with my set up and would be the better choice.

970, or wait a month or so until new ones and see how far down in price they go

Yes. The r9 390 is "better". Even who they perform almost the same in most games the r9 390 is the better choice, as the 970 starts struggeling with its VRAM problem. Currently this is not a problem for most games, but some games like Shadow of Mordor or Hitman run MUCH better on the 390 at higher resolutions. This trend will continue with future games.

Also the CPU is not optimal for gaming, but you cant fix both on a 400$ budget. I think the GPU would be the better upgrade.

So the 390 or the 390x. Also will it work with the 550 power supply?

If it is from a good manufacturer yes. I have a 390 with a 550W Cooler Master GM. No problem. If you have a shitty 550W PSU then you might run into problems.

Is that through evga directly or can I buy it from Amazon or newegg and still get the credit?
