Well, kinda hard to argue on the GPU. Your budget would allow for a 980 ti, but it is currently still very expensive and there are new generations coming out soon. In my opinion it would be better to go with a cheaper r9 390. It can still play all games at high settings and costs like half of what a 980ti would cost.
You can use that money you saved to get a GPU upgrade in 2 or 3 years.

Nice build why the mini case though? Don't we prefer bigger for more space and cable management

PCPartPicker part list: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/qQ3wwP

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($284.75 @ shopRBC)
Motherboard: ASRock H170M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($119.75 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($106.98 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($110.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.25 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($414.99 @ NCIX)
Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($117.73 @ Amazon Canada)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($98.98 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $1318.41

The build suggested above has a power supply that's way over kill quite honestly with that rig, you'll draw at the wall (not at the PSU) under 300 watts. The case is personal preference, that's why I choose the Arc Mini R2, I own one and it's a beautiful and well built case.

Now let's talk about the video card. I suggested a 970 because I don't know what resolution you're gaming at. I'm assuming you're gaming at 1080p, which is why I suggested the 970. The G1 is considered the best model of the 970 series by almost everyone. Check on Overclock.net you'll see (you can message me there too if you have any questions).

If you're gaming at 1440p, I would suggest aiming for a 980, which still fits into your budget. You also have room to spare for a 500GB SSD and larger HDD if you wish.

The case is very big. It is only a mATX because the mainboard is mounted horizontally. This comes with some big advantages. In the front there is space for a huge 200mm fan that created awesome airflow, while saying very very quite. And the gpu fans are not hanging downwards, which makes them run quiter in the long run.

@Duality92: i do know that the power supply is overkill, but prices in canada does make it worth it. simply look at the minimal price difference between the one you took and mine. As PSU usually last more then 10 years a bigger one for minimal extra cost might benefit you in the future.

I'd be gaming at 1080p. I guess in the near future 1440 once I upgrade monitor to that but for now just 1080. I'll check out ur build.. I have a psu on my current pc that's 650 or 600w so I might be above to save 100 on that possibly

As everyone should know, all 200mm fans are garbage once you put them behind any kind of filtration.

For the case though, it's really personal preference. I love SFF builds, I actually had my second one until recently, but decided to put both my systems in the same case. It's just a PITA when you need to change something usually as everything is cramped. Regular tower cases have better air flow paths almost always.

Is there a massive difference between the r9 390 8gb and GTX 980? I know the 200$ difference but is it much difference to spend that extra 200 bucks on the 980
