So I'm looking to do some photo/video editing as a hobby. New kid on the way so will need to do videos and photos of him.

Right now I'm looking at 700-900 budget. Willing to go over if rebates will bring it under budget. I'm kind of lost though. Looking at the I5 4690K but that is about as far as I've gotten in research lol. I'm new to the editing scene too. Any help is appreciated. Wouldn't mind buying some fgs and donating to the builders. Thanks!

Are you ok with going with an older generation build?

If so, then Haswell should last you for around 3 years or so.

Also, do you plan to overclock at all?

inb4 Skylake builds

Personally, I would go with this. If you plan to overclock then you can always get an aftermarket cooler for a relatively decent price,

/e The CM TX3 is better than the stock cooler, and will allow a mild OC.

Why do you always put DVD drives? Hardly anybody uses them any more. Flash drives are so much more efficient

I know they are...but optical drives have one advantage...bootable CD for backup software. :)

Can do the same with a USB also. I have around 20 or so with backup images of my OS from the last few years.

True, but some have problems with them, and some motherboards have issues with them.

Eh I guess it's a matter of preference. I've had more issues with burned CDs than USB media. I guess f you do it yourself and set a slower speed then no issues.

W/e I burn bootable CDs or DVDs I use the slowest burn speed possible. No problems yet.
