So I'm looking for options and suggestions on upgrading my cpu
currently I run an AMD FX-6300
a friend of mine is suggesting I go all out and swap out my mobo so I can just switch to intel now, I am considering this, although it would cost a decent chunk more, but would also be a better performance boost than what I was looking at from AMD
also alongside this I'd likely end up needing to grab a disc drive to be able to reinstall windows and such

So far I've taken a look at i5-4690K and i5-6600K, but am still looking for opinions

4690k is more cost effective if you already have ram

6600k if you dont care about buying ddr4

Here, fill this out...

Budget:
More specific use (what games, what programs):
Planned time until purchase:
Do you need an Operating System?:
Do you have any specific preferred components?:
Do you need a sound or wireless card?:
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?:
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?:
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs):

Do this too, so we can reuse parts if possible...list power supply and case, as Speccy does not list them.

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download ...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link ...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility....simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

Budget: I have no set budget for this, but I am looking for reasonably priced still
More specific use (what games, what programs): I'm looking to get better performance out of FO4 and a more capable processor as I've been looking at Dying Light lately
Planned time until purchase:
Do you need an Operating System?: No I have 8.1, but upon reinstalling I'll likely be running 10
Do you have any specific preferred components?:
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: no
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: I have no current plans on Overclocking
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: no
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): Southern Ontario

Not necessarily, depends on the motherboard you choose. Some of the Skylake boards support DDR3 and the Skylake CPU has no problem running the DDR3 ram as well.
