so ive been an apple user, just cause, i dont know, mainstream conformist i guess, people say for the same price you can build your own comp thats twice as better, i know everyone builds and fully customises there own desktops but ive never seen that done with a laptop? is it possible or do you have to buy a laptop from the store and then upgrade the parts? what can i do

e/ this isnt really for gaming, id just like it to never slow down and open programs up straight away etc, idk if that makes a difference to gaming or not

budget around $2k

Well there are companies who build customised laptops, but it comes with a big price tag.
But mostly you have to choose a basic model (CPU and GPU) and can do minor changes like SSD-Size or RAM.

You can buy a barebone laptop but the CPU and GPU are beyond expensive, so it's better to buy it prebuilt for you. A GTX 970m (mobile GPU) is around $500 with limited or no warranty.

Its not like building a pc where you have a main board and you sinply put it together like a puzzle. Every part needs to fit and the cooling needs to be adjusted to the thermal output of the components. Also most of the processors are not socketed but soldered.
But the big companies offer pretty much every combination of hardware in some way. So i dont really see why you even need a custom build.

Maybe you can just tell us what you want and what you want to use it for, and we can help you to find the right laptop.

But otherwise you have to go to a manufactueres website like dell, click on the model you want and see what choises the website leaves you with. Thats pretty much how you customise a laptop.

Well to make it look unique you should get a badass paint job for your laptop case. Nothing more unique then selfmade.
Otherwise have a look at the inspiron series of dell. They are of very good quality. Not sure if schenker is selling laptops in the US, but for me in germany that would be my first choice.

EDIT: Has windows ever been behind?
