So I am throwing in an ssd and a new video card in my old comp before I buy my new one (wife/kids can use it etc)

It an fx6831 - Im putting in:

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SSC GAMING ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling w/ Free Installed Backplate Graphics Card 04G-P4-3967-KR
PNY 240 GB CS1211 Internal 2.5" SATA III Value Solid State Drive SSD7CS1211-240-RB

I just want to make sure these will work no prob with my current setup.

Also, am I able to add an extra fan or two to the case?

Yes, except mine came with 16gb of ram.

SSD and Graficcard will work.
If you can add another case fan depends on:
a) does your case have a mounting spot. (if yes make sure you buy the right size)
does your main board has another sysFan Header. (Thats these 4 pin things at the top labeled sysFan)

Ok ty - I'm not really in a huge hurry to get the extra fans, but I def will if I can...I'll just check when I put the card/ssd in :D.

I'm hoping to get huge improvements going from the radeon 5850 to the 960.

If anyone knows whether or not it can take additional fans I am all ears!

Yeah the SSD and the vid card would most probably work.

You would need to check the power supply, and see if it has an... 8 pin or a 6+2 pin connector to power the vid card, and power connector for the SSD as well.

The motherboard (w/e it is) has a PCI-E x16 2.0 slot...so that's good. It should also have a free SATA port for the SSD.

OK - if the PSU doesn't have the right connector, I am assuming an adapter would do the trick? I think I'm just going to pop it open and take a look since the ssd and card are already ordered haha. If I need to cancel, I would prob have to do it today.

What kind of connector does the 960 have?

It has one 8 pin connector, which will accept one 8 pin or one 6+2 pin, from the power supply.

Ugh bad news..its 2x 6 pin connector. What can I do?

I found a 2 pin from the power supply - that should do it then right?

Well it looks like the old card took 2x 6 pin connectors. But it also looks that there are extra power supply leads bundled up in there, that aren't being used.
Unfortunately, too small to see what they are.






/e It's some generic POS power supply, but, it's 750w, so it probably came with 2x 6+2 connectors minimum. Might even have 2x 8 pin connectors also.
