Ok so currently I have this for the rig I am building it came with triple channel gskill 3x2gb 1333 mhz 9-9-91-24

Ok so I want to get another triple channel kit to finish the bunch and have 12 gb's total. I found sets of the same gskill 3x2 1333 sets but they cost more than the 3x2 1600 mhz sets. Will I be able to buy a 1600mhz set and oc the 1333 to match the 1600 mhz pretty easily?

These are what I have Gskill F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ

Would I be able to up grab a 1600 mhz with the same timings and voltage, and possibly upclock the 1333 to match the 1600 just fine?

It's better just to buy a 3x 4GB kit if you want 12GB total.

it should work fine. just match timings and speed. the 1333 might need more volts though
you may have to downclock the 1600 to 1333, if it doesnt work

I seriously doubt you'll get the 1333Mhz RAM upclocked to 1600Mhz and still be stable.

But that's kinda beside the point. You shouldn't mix and match RAM.

It won't. Unless you manually change settings in BIOS.

Also, he's right you shouldn't mix and match RAM like that.

I am not mixing and matching ram, they are both gskill 9-9-9-24 one set is just for 20$ and 1600mhz vs me spending 30$ for the 1333 set...

Both sets run same voltage at 9-9-9-24. And it isn't purchased yet either. But if I can get the 20$ set and it will run the same as getting the more expensive set i will do that. Because then it leaves me a lil more to pick up a headset too probably

I just found a set of 1600 mhz for cheaper than the 1333's I all found.

it's not like I have one stick of 2gb that I want to add 4 more from a different set I have a full triple channel set, and want to add a second of the exact same, it is just cheaper to get the exact same with 1600 vs 1333.

I will just pay the extra and get the same exact set that I already have though.

Because it's same manufacturer it will more than likely downclock the 1600 to 1333. It's not really a smart thing to do.

Would help if we knew what motherboard you are using.

Even if you got the EXACT same RAM modules, they come in different version numbers, as well.

This usually indicates what IC chips were used on that particular batch of modules.

Ok so if the person selling them has 3 full sets of them, is there any way to find out if the ic chips were the same?

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P6T/specifications/

thats the motherboard with an i7-920

it is an extreme budget build which will be done for 250 including a brand new 270x and asus 23" monitor and a ssd.
