More specific use (what games, what programs): currently wow, d3, path of exile, and various steam games but I want this to be able to handle any game for a long time on high graphics

No idea. Not something I was considering. I'm also getting google fiber soon so not sure if that effects anything.

Currently, the only game that shows any benefit from Hyperthreading is Star Citizen. So, there's really no need for an I7 for gaming unless, like me, you just want to have one. Also, do you prefer Nvidia or AMD GPUs? Some people have a preference so I like to make sure.

This is a 6 core CPU and when Broadwell-E is released it will be compatible with this setup. Personally, this is my choice and somebody will claim it's "older parts" However, look at everyone else's builds and see which you prefer.

I want an i7 for the future growth. Might as well get it while I can. Nvidia.

That grafics card is by far not enough for gaming. But it is very important which resulotion you are going to play on.
If your going for 1080p you can get constant 60fps in all games with a r9 390 / gtx 970.
If you get a 1440p monitor you will need at least a r9 390x or better a 980 ti.

This should all be possible within your budget but unless you cant tell us exactly what monitor your using, we cant really give you any recommendations.

PS: On your list it does not state which power supply you are getting. That does not sound very trusting.

R9 390 runs 1440p just fine.

yes. There are brands that simply use terrible and cheap components, whereas others use higher quality parts. The Brand is very important when it comes to power supplies.
