I currently am using this computer:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.41Ghz
4.00 GB ddr3
EVGA GTX 260
750Watt power supply
Republic of gamers Crosshair III Formula Mother board
1 TB non SSD
Running W7

(Yes really old, build like 6-7ish years ago?)

I just obtained a newer computer from a family member which is

Intel I5 - 2500k 3.30Ghz
8GB of ram
EVGA GTX 650
750Watt power supply
Asus mother board
Couple smaller non SSD drives
Running W8 currently.

What would you guys suggest? Should I build a whole new computer, is the newer computer with the I5 upgradeable? Buy a SSD and call it good?

I mainly run LoL, CSGO, D3, POE.

Any advice is appreciated.

Prozessor is okay. Still usable. 8gb ram is also okay.
A ssd will speed up starting time and decrease load times, but won't affect performance much.
The grafics card will struggle with modern games at 1080p.

A new computer that would be a noticeable better one then your old one will costs you about 900$. Upgreating ssd and a r9 390 will cost you around 350$. If you are okay with low grafics settings and minor frame drops then just get a ssd.
It's all about how much you value good fps, higher resolution and money.
Also you can get a ssd and a grafics card. If you still are not satisfied you can upgreating the rest later.

For more info please tell us what monitor you are using, which grafics setting and fps you would like to have and what main board you are using.

On the first rig I am using a Flatron W2452T LG monitor.

On the second rig I threw on a spare View sonic 22" VX2265WM 120HZ LCD just because I had it.

I am wanting to run dual monitors if possible. (which the GTX 650 is capable I think)

Graphics settings don't bother me if I run them on max, or on lowest. As long as its smooth unlike my current rig( D3 / POE there is fps lag )

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/ is my Motherboard for the i5 rig.

I initially was going to build a new computer with a budget around 1000 Canadian, but got the I5 computer so I thought id see if I can just upgrade it to make it worth while and save some money.

I still have the 1000$ to upgrade or building a new computer, but the Canadian dollar sucks so I don't know if I should wait for it to come back up (LOL ?).

1000 canadian dollar wont get a much better pc. It might be best only to upgreade the gpu.

r9 380 / gtx 960 - these are okay for 1080p gaming on medium grafic settings (you might have to lower settings for future games)
r9 390 / gtx 970 - will run all current games at 1080p on high - max settings

i5 2500k can easly feed 100fps+ at most games. There is no need to overclock it.

Not most games. All games. There is currently no game that a r9 390 cant run.

For he r9 390, is there a specific brand I should go for/ stay away from, or just find the cheapest one and buy it?
This one here?

or

Also for SSD I have no idea what to even start looking at. I wanting to run my games on it so I would be expecting a 250-500 gb one would be good? What specs should I be looking for SSD cards, I have never looked into them before.

Well. All different manufactures put slightly different coolers on them and overclock them. I have not heard anything bad about any of these cards. Sapphire and MSI are very good brands. Powercooler mostly offers the cheapest cards. Sapphire has pretty much the best quality of all parts + awesome support. Powercooler runs a little louder but is cheaper. (this is what i heared. have never had one of these cards myself)

make sure that you case is big enough for a 305mm long card.

For the ssd a 250GB Samsung 850 is pretty much the standart that everybody is buying. Solid performance and a okay price.
