This is my speccy image: http://i64.tinypic.com/256r0o7.png
my pc I bought: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MZyZhM
It's showing my ram isn't up to speed, but I know nothing about being in bios.
Can anyone help me figure out how to set my ram to what i need to?
And is anyone familiar with overclocking?
I've never done anything like this before. This is the very first PC I've put together. And I really don't know anything. So far it's up and running, and everything looks good.. other then the ram problem, and I don't know what to do to fix it...
Anyone have any suggestions or tips for someone completely new to something like this?
Some guide told me to turn on XMP, I did that and restarted and my computer said something about not being able to boot properly and restored the settings for that to be disabled.. Other then that I haven't tried anything.

xmp would auto change the speed to 3000mhz

And shouldnt cause it to fail to boot, Unless he changed another setting on accident.

Just go to the BIOS in Advanced mode, and you will see that the "DRAM Frequency is set to (Auto). Just highlight that and hit ENTER and you can change the DRAM Frequency to 3000MHZ. Remember that Speccy will only show 1500Mhz, when the RAM is running at 3000Mhz.

The reason for this is that DDR stands for Double Data Rate. So 1500Mhz x 2 (double data rate) = 3000Mhz. Currently Speccy shows 1067Mhz...so your RAM is running at 2133Mhz.

You may need to also set the DRAM timings at the manufacturers specs, which will be either 15-16-16-35 or 15-15-15-35, depending on exactly which version of Gskill 3000Mhz RAM you have. You could also just take one stick of RAM out, and read it on the side...it will show the proper timings. :)

he still needs to set it to XMP. It should also read the correct timings for the RAM.

Yeah, we know...Secksii pointed that out.

I changed just the ram frequency to the numbers on the side, and just that alone said my overclocking failed, and I have been reset to default settings.
Is there software I have to download? I downloaded everything from the MSI website for my motherboard, and installed everything.

No, what you need to do is dive back into the BIOS and set the RAM frequency, timings and voltage to the RAM manufacturer's specs.

Just changing the frequency, but not the timings was what gave the message: "Overclocking has failed".

For 2133Mhz RAM the timings are lower (faster), and when you set the freq. to 3000Mhz, it must have still tried to use the 2133Mhz timings. Some motherboards will auto adjust the timings, when you change the frequency, some won't.
