I currently have all the parts listed below except for the CPU and the MOBO . I currently have the AMD fx 8320 and the mobo is MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+.
Now my question is is this the right mobo / CPU combo to upgrade to ? I'm looking for longevity and a better gaming experience. Any input would be appreciated. Yes it is a cheaper build but that is why i am upgrading . I do have a limit of around $400 - $500 ( give or take ) .

Thanks in advance!

It's actually a much better upgrade from an AMD CPU. If you want to stay AMD then overclock the 8320 to 8350 clocks and wait until Zen is released. If you want to go Intel then you could also go Skylake which would mean motherboard ,CPU and RAM.

Otherwise that build is fine.

Yea i'd prefer intel because of reliability and longevity. One question i did have , does this matter " Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard has an onboard USB 3.0 header, but the NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports"

That is the correct combination... Intel 4xxx processors run on Z97 Mobos.

As someone who upgraded from an Fx 8320 overclocked to 4.4 ghz and went to an i5 at 4.4 ghz, i can safely say, waste of money. I gained a benefit, but I'd honestly say you'd gain more performance by upgrading your gpu to something like a gtx 980 and overclocking it, because the 760 is a pretty weak card.
I would personally hold out for AMD's next line of processors or intels next line before changing your 8320. That's my 2 cents. ^^

So yeah, get a gtx 980 and overclock it, processor after another gen is out, is my recommend.

I want to OC my 8320 but the board i have has been known to overheat due to VRM issues. Ive gone to 4.0 just fine. Temps were stable and never reached over 50. I've just read so many reviews about OCing this combo that arent good.

Got any guides or instructions for OCing? I use just the basic OC genie that comes with the mobo.

Yeah the board, according to research is failure prone in general. even without the overclocking factor.
If youre running stable at 4, I'd likely just sit there untiil youre ready to upgrade.
The new amd Zen processor is coming out this year, some time, and it may bring an actual price drop to intels line if it's any good. It may also serve as a strong alternative to intel, we don't know that until it's out ^_^

You can get a lot better gaming performance just by upgrading your GPU. If you want to spend all of your budget, you can get a gtx 980, but its only about 15% better than some 200 dollar cheaper cards.

I'd get a 390:

This will bring you some serious performance over your 760.

If you want a guide, you can use tech yes citys

this is my current setup.. i plan on getting a hybrid 980 as the last upgrade for this rig.. or until the zen is released..

my 8320 is overclocked to 4.5Ghz with a stable core temp of 7-14*c with the liquid cooled setup..

id honestly just upgrade the motherboard, and vid card for now.. and wait it out for the zen.. intel is soo expensive for miniscule updates/differences every 3 months..

e/ the mainboard peaks around 20-24*c

e2/ after looking at that 390 ^^ .. im contemplating it over the 980.. :s
