I have very little to no knowledge about the insides of a computer, i just play games on them and if it can do that well thats all that matters to me.

I have gotten a trusted family friend to build be a pc for gaming for me and givien him a 3000$ NZD budget.

these are the specs
i7-6700K
16GB DDR4
GTX970
Z170 Motherboard
Samsung 250GB SSD
WD 2TB HDD
DVD-RW
650W PSU
Windows 10

The total cost is 2724 NZD and im wondering on peoples opinions if this will be a good machine for the money.

The price comes to 1842.24 US Dollar just for refference

can't say much about if it's a good machine for the money, because I'm not used to NZ prices.

We would also need more info on the 650W Psu, like what is the brand/serial
Also, for strictly gaming the i5 is just as good as the i7.
If you are planning to stream your gameplay, then sure get the i7.
However, for 200 more NZD it's not worth it imo. You can still stream with i5's.

I'd get something like this

Thanks peeps,

That was the information that was emailed to me about all the parts, i didnt get individual brands and such for them

i could have got the gtx980 but it would have been a 12% increase in preformance for a 44% increase in price, so i just settled for the 970

my build is a 980 TI not a regular 980.

but if u want to stick with 970 and not maximize ur budget,

Total: $2390.36
~300 cheaper with better psu etc. than the 2724 build

some of the price will no doubt be the fee for getting it built for me, so i dont know if that would be cheaper or not.

but thank you.

i was just looking on opinions/ratings on it as a machine in general

Heya I just buitt mine before Christmas. I have an i5-6600k and a gtx 970. It runs amazing. I think you should go with the the i5 unless you intend to do a lot of video editing. Also get a larger power supply, 800watts is what I have in mine. You even chose the same motherboard c;

Also I reccomend getting the 970, there's not much difference for a 980... Not for the extra 50 bucks. But that's my opinion, everyone has one :) let me know how the build goes :D

we'd need more specific info to give a rating or opinion on the build he emailed you,
because 650w psu and z170 motherboard could be bad quality, or good quality, we don't know. It could be CX or NEX junk or Seasonic/Superflower.
if he is charging you like ~$250 fee to build a computer, then ur getting rekt...

here's a reference
http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/WGG8f7
Total: $2484.71

basically the same outline as your family friend's email
but ur getting evo 212 cooler (most cost efficient/perf cooler on market) we don't know what ur family friend picked for you cos the i7 6700k does not come with a stock fan
16gb 3000 ram (can save lots more going 2400 speed)
gaming 3 gigabyte mobo
windforce 970
prolly the same SSD
1TB less data HDD
100W+ more with 10yr warranty from EVGA built by superflower
black & red theme with red light if ur into that
for $240 less

Yeah well its a bit late ive already payed half it and it should be sent to me shortly, i trust the person building it tho so it should be fine. hes been building computers for like nearly 20 years i think and i highly doubt he would even think about trying to rip me off.

May not be ripping you off but like secksi said much more viable options. Best of luck on the build.
