For most online companies, the banks put a "hold" on the funds, but don't actually send them until you receive the package. To your bank account it "looks" like the money is gone, but it is just on "hold".
This is how it works in the U.S., I would assume Canada does something similar. Ofc, this only works if you paid with a credit card or bank card.
