I currently have a sad excuse for a laptop in a macbook pro retina, but the screen is broken so its just a shitty desktop. I need a new computer and will be starting college in January. However, I have $1500 to work with for technology as a whole for the next few years, and believe I can get a decent desktop (primarily for gaming) as well as a laptop or high-powered tablet (primarily for school).
I am wondering what you all recommend as far as either of these go, I haven't been in the market in years so I'm not really sure what's important now for longevity and utility.
As far as the desktop goes, longevity is important. It'd be nice to get something that will last as long as possible. I know that it may not run the newest games very easily in 5 years, but if it could at least run the newest games now for 10 years or so that'd be nice.
As far as the laptop/tablet goes, I just need something that I can take with me to class and have as a portable on-campus resource (I live off campus). It should be able to use office and similar programs, as well as any online content that may be required as coursework. It would be nice if it could also do lightweight audio recording and editing, though this is far from necessary. The most important thing is size and battery life. Ideally, it would be small enough to fit in my purse, which can hold something about 9"x8". It'd also be nice if it would last 2 days with medium use, so impromptu overnights at my friend's are more possible.
Thanks for reading so much, sorry if this belongs in the General Help section, feel free to move if so.
