Here is my mother board. I currently have an amd Radeon HD 6800 video card in my computer. I just bought fallout 4 last night and it is very choppy on the lowest settings. Please help me find the best video card that my mother board can support that is an improvement from the 6800 with a budget of 300 dollars or less. If you have any more questions about what specs my pc is, check my profile. Full specs listed there. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

what matters most is your cpu (so we know it isn't a bottleneck) and your psu so we know your computer won't blow up.
your psu isn't listed in your profile. so provide that and someone can help you better.
motherboard doesn't really matter unless it is so old it doesn't have pcie :)

Honestly, just spend the max you can afford. even if you od have a bottleneck, there isn't any point in buying a GPU that fits your cpu now, then upgrading your cpu later, just to be stuck with a gpu you really could/should upgrade.
Not to mention, as dx12 becomes the mainstream, while you may have bottlenecks in some games, likely any dx12 game will reduce or eliminate it.

If your budget is an intangible amount, as a means of simply limiting yourself, grab this

its 300 after rebate.

if you physically have nothing more than 300 dollars to your name to spend, then grab thjis
300 with 280 after rebate.

personally i prefer gigabyte over power color since the price difference is only 20 dollars, but up to you.

I wasn't sure if maybe since my motherboard was only PCI-X 2.0 if that mattered as far as what video cards I could use. Or that it was 2x slots 16x, 4x. Wasn't sure if that would limit a card that needed 2x slots to use.

As for the PSU question, I'm sorry I forgot to mention that.

For 300$ price range is Radeon the ideal card to go for? Or NVIDIA?

edit: also as awesome as that first one is, i see a lot of people reviewing it saying that it overheats and what not. that is a bit of a concern.

I didn't see a single review about the gigabyte model "overheating"
If a unit overheats, its faulty and should be rmad. these cards are fine with cooling.

as for 2.0 vs 3.0 , does not matter currently.
the x16 etc. also doesnt really matter to you atm :)

The 390 is a better card than the 970.
Ill give you a copy and paste of mine
Quote
the 390 has 8gb of vram, the 970 has 4gb of vram, but theres a technical detail that .5gb of that vram is about 8x slower than the rest, which can cause issues if you are using more than 3.5 gb of vram. I have not tested myself, but many complain about this.
The 390 runs hotter than the 970 and consumes more electricity. Though for other people ive done the math, and the cost difference in electricity is very small, unless you pay closer to 30 cents per kwh.
In terms of performance, the 390 usually ties or beats the 970, especially at higher resolutions because it has more vram, which is what higher resolution gaming consumes more of.

my personal opinion is that if the 390 is same price or cheaper than a 970, always get 390 since it offers better performance in general and has 8gb of vram, which may protect you as developers are using more and more vram due to the consoles having nearly 8x more ram in general than they have in the past generation.
