Hey,

looking for a laptop (ideally under $500) for basic needs

basically i use examsoft for medschool exams so i need it to run that effortlessly (AKA a SSD is a must)

would like a discrete GPU as well for light gaming if possible

finally lightweight/mobility is also a high priority

the sooner the better, thanks!

Don't buy anything

For what you want, save up your money, get like $800 and you can have a great laptop for your needs, also wait for black Friday/cyber Monday deals to roll around, at the very least you will get heavy discounts on extended warranties and shipping (as these are widely discounted for those events)

I bought my ultrabook around black Friday about 2 years ago and got a 2-year warranty extension for $50 extra, I paid about $1k overall, well worth it. It has a 620m and SSds, 13.3" screen, etc.

If you want light, with a dedicated GPU, you will have to spend more, that is the bottom line

VOUCH

SSD and discrete vid start at $800 or so.

/e But if you can deal with Windows 10 and no SSD, it's not bad. But as Ice said, Black Friday is coming.

What you really want is an Ultrabook, which tend to run around $1000 for dedicated GPU options, but if you are lucky you may be able to get one for around $750-850 as we launch into the season of sales

buy ssd seperately and install yourself. 500gb samsung evo for $153 on newegg right now and you get assassins creed with it as well

this will most likely get you a lot more of a laptop. most lower end laptops don't come with ssd's and if they do are typically overpriced for what you get imo.
