Core i5 6600k
8GB DDR4 2400 Ram
Gaming 5 from MSI or Gigabyte would be fine
CPU cooler since the 6600k doesnt come with one.

Would be around $500

OR

Upgrade to a 6700k for $100 more and a ASUS HERO or Gaming 7 for $50ish more, still around $650, double ram for around $700

I personally don't see the need for DDR4 unless if you wanted to shell out the extra cash. I'd recommend Skylake 6700 and a new motherboard for now (I think most Z170 motherboards support DDR3).

Then once you get a new monitor you can assess your need for a new GPU.

Maybe a larger SSD if you have storage problems. Good deals come and go for the 500GB Samsung's.

NP, 1080p aint bad depending on refresh rate and size.
I mean the gtx 970 can do some impressive 1440p numbers.

I agree thats why i left the $200 room for other options. I got the 250GB samsung for $77 on sale. Always deals on them.

no need really worthless upgrade cpu cooler?
overclock that 2600k to 4.8

spending money for slight increase in frames
when more dx12 games come about you will see less cpu bottlenecking
