Bought the following:

I had a very limited budget and this laptop has most everything I wanted for a good price except a SSD. Can give me advice on how I would install an SSD and clone the existing HDD onto it? The system does not come with a recovery disc or anything so I'm not sure how to clone it.

Thanks for any advice.

Its funny I was eyeing that laptop myself. Pretty sweet looking unit!

heres a video that explains it.

Tldr:
You just need the software and to have an environment where your hdd and ssd are on the same system. You could also hook up both your old hdd and new ssd into a desktop [if you have one] and run the software the same way.

Thanks Rapture.

So I got it all figured out. I bought a Samsung 850 Evo 256gb SSD, a 32gb USB3.0 thumb drive, and a 9.5mm universal HDD optical caddy (bought all from Amazon). I used the thumb drive to create a recovery install through the Acer Care software that came with the computer. Then I opened up the laptop and installed my SSD hardware. I booted up the computer with the thumb drive and did a clean install of Windows10 (I believe the Windows key is embedded in the BIOS and I was able to just skip entering a key). Make sure you enable boot disc start up from the BIOS menu! Then I put the 1tb HDD into the caddy and installed it into the open optical bay. I wiped the drive clean and also deleted the partitions. Then I created a windows restore point and drive image through the windows10 recovery onto the HDD. If you do not delete the partitions, you can not create certain back ups but you can still use it as a storage space.

If you are interested let me know and I can be more specific about the steps.

Edit:
I'm pretty happy with the laptop. For the price I can't really argue. Battery life is probably about 3hrs browsing the web and watching videos. The screen does have poor viewing angles and no matter how much I tweak the settings darker colors have a tint of grey and sometimes images look washed out compared to hooking it up to a legit monitor. Again though, for the price I can live with it.
