I'm currently running
i3 2120 at like 3.3 i think it is.
r7850 twin frozr 2gb
600w psu
8gb ram
some shitty random motherboard.

I'm looking for a new motherboard, doesn't have to be the best, x2 ram slots and x1 gpu slot, not looking to crossfire or sli.
for cpu, i'm looking at an i5, maybe a 4690k, or something cheaper, has to be unlocked.
and, if the budget fits, a full tower, or even a micro atx.

i'm asking you guys because my knowledge on motherboards and cpu is very limited.

looking for a budget of ~ $400. CAD.

Thanks! :)

Couldn't meet your budget with those requirements, sorry :(

You can go cheaper on the motherboard, but overclocking will be limited. this is the cheapest overclocking board id suggest for the i5.

The only thing that's cheaper and unlocked would be the pentium g3258 which is really nice, but not too much more powerful than your i3, as it is a dual core [no hyperthreading]
Otherwise AMD is your other option, an Fx-6300 overclocks like a beast with an evo cooler :)

and now i fit your budget ^_^

Intel is better but don't let marketing cloud your judgement. the fx 6300 with a better grpahics card > i5 with that graphics card.
For gaming you prioritize your graphics to get the best performance.

Careful with the Z87-A, it needs a bios update and it can only be done with an older processor.

Also I went with the pentium in my initial build but it wasn't cutting it for me and I upgraded to a 4690k
