Hello all,

It's been a long time since I've build my last desktop (2008). I've waited for sky-lake as I'd prefer to have some current technology over slightly older/cheaper parts.

Budget: Max of $1200
More specific use: Games like Diablo 3 and Starcraft II at decent to max settings (nothing too crazy, I'm primarily a fan of RTS games on the PC but would like the flexibility as I may get more into PC gaming with this build).
Planned time until purchase: This month
Do you need an OS: No, will be running Windows 10 Pro x64
Do you have any specific preferred components: Intel skylake and Nvidia are preferred.
Do you need a sound or wireless card: No
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking: I'm a novice at overclocking, but I'd like to give it a shot.
Do you need a monitor/mouse/keyboard: No
Zip code/location: 53089

Here is the build I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6GXyzy
In addition, I also plan on getting some Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound as I would imagine that beats what comes with the heat sink. I also have a few mechanical HDDs from previous builds that I will be using for data, so those do not need to be included.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

I wouldn't get less than a GTX 970. Ya never know what other games you may decide to play.

/e I'd also get the 6700K

Last time he built a desktop was (2008). It may be 2022 the next time he builds one. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. Upgrading to an i7 and GTX 970 would add significant costs to this build.

What would be better in regards to the old blizzard games I listed hah.

1. Keeping the build as it is with the i5/gtx 960
2. Upgrading to the i7, and using the graphics card from my old PC (gtx 550 ti) until I can afford to set aside more $'s for a better graphics card, and desire to play a game that requires it.

Looking up some benchmarks, it seems that the jump from the gtx 550 ti to the 960 would be very nice just compared to what I am used to.
